| Horse racing: Zenyatta blogs, Silver Goblin passes on Posted: 12 Mar 2011 12:45 AM PST Published: 3/12/2011 2:31 AM Last Modified: 3/12/2011 6:45 AM About 15 days ago, Zenyatta was teamed up in the breeding shed with the top freshman sire in the country, Bernardini, who won six of his eight starts and is a son of the classic A.P. Indy. Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs, wife of Zenyatta's former trainer, John, is the racing manager for the 7-year-old mare's owners, Jerry and Ann Moss. She is tracking Zenyatta's progress in getting pregnant and writing a diary as if the horse were penning it herself. This post was seen on the website Thursday: "I AM IN FOAL! "This is my 15-day scan! From what I am told, everything looks fabulous and solid. The embryo looks to be a good size. So, at this time, everything is WONDERFUL! "I will be rescanned at about 28 days and if that is all A-OK, my next scan will be at the 40-42 day time period from the date I was bred. As Dottie explained to you earlier, the latter scan is really very important. If all is perfect at that time, then I am pretty well on my way in my pregnancy. This is all so exciting and so new to me! I JUST LOVE IT! "Hmmm! I just had a thought! Lately, I have been craving BANANAS. It seems like that is all I've been thinking about for the last few days! I guess this could explain why. Dottie tells me craving some type of food is very normal for humans while pregnant. Maybe it is for horses like me too. "HOOVES CROSSED for the news on my next scan to be just at POSITIVE!"With Love, "HUGS and Big Kisses to All, "Z" ... The 20-year-old grey gelding probably will be most remembered for running second to Cigar in the 1995 Oaklawn Handicap. Cigar won 16 races in a row to tie Citation's old mark in his famous streak of victories. Silver Goblin had one of his own, taking eight in a row after finishing eighth in the 1994 Preakness. Owner Al Horton said Silver Goblin was found dead Monday in his pasture in Bache. There are babies on the way that people are hoping are at least as good as the Goblin and, in the best-case scenario, can challenge Cigar for greatness. Blame, the only horse to ever defeat Zenyatta, had his first two mares confirmed in foal this week. He was bred to an English mare named Promptly. The other was Silk Briefcase, who is the dam (mother) of a multiple-graded stakes winner. Blame stands for $35,000 at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Ky. The 2009 Horse of the Year, Rachel Alexandra, also has been confirmed in foal to two-time Horse of the Year, Curlin. The expected foaling date for this baby is Feb. 1. This will be the first foal to be the offspring of two Preakness Stakes winners. Both Rachel Alexandra and Curlin won the second leg of the Triple Crown in their 3-year-old years. Six mares have been scanned and confirmed as in-foal to three-time track record holder Quality Road. He stands for $35,000 and is expected to cover more than 100 mares this year. ... In Triple Crown news for this year, the Kentucky Derby favorite right now - the undefeated and 2-year-old Eclipse Award-winning Uncle Mo - is expected to run against four horses in the Timely Writer Overnight Stakes. Uncle Mo won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile last fall, his third win in a row, and put up one of the top Beyer Speed figures ever by a 2-year-old in that race (108). Uncle Mo is expected to go off at 1-5 odds or less in his first start of the year.
