KTVB.COM Posted on January 3, 2011 at 5:09 PM Updated today at 5:28 PM BOISE -- Horse racing in Ada County appears to be in jeopardy. The Ada County Board of Commissioners said in a statement that Idaho Entertainment, LLC, has requested to terminate its lease agreement at the Idaho Downs at Les Bois Park. Idaho Entertainment has been in negotiations for a year and a half with the Idaho Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association, but the two sides have been unable to reach an agreement. Without an agreement, Idaho Entertainment cannot obtain a racing license from the Idaho State Racing Commission. "It is extremely disappointing that these two parties did not reach an agreement," said Ada County Commission Chairman Rick Yzaguirre. "We had high hopes that horse racing would have returned to Ada County by now. Unfortunately, it appears its return will again be delayed." Ada County Commissioner Sharon Ullman said they remain optimistic that horse racing will return to Ada County in the near future. The county commissioners may now seek proposals from other parties interested in operating horse racing at the Idaho Expo. When KTVB spoke with horsemen about this issue in March 2010 they told us the biggest hang-ups were contract length, training time and the number of racing days. The horse race season typically begins in Ada County in early May.
