PLEASANTON — Horse racing on Wednesday at the Alameda County Fair is being canceled because of a lack of horses, fair officials said.

The fairgrounds will continue to have live racing through Tuesday and resume racing Thursday until the fair closes on July 11.

"We made this decision based upon a desire to present to the public the strongest possible racing product on our final weekend of racing, July 8 through 11," Rick Pickering, CEO of the Fair Association, said in a written statement.

The price of admission will be reduced from $10 to $3 for adults on Wednesday.
